Boss Chick of the Month: Doriann Amadi
Greetings Boss Chicks! I am continuing my series of recognizing a woman who
demonstrates the true spirit of a Boss Chick! Meet Miss September: Doriann Amadi.
Dori, as I’ve come to call her over the last few months, became a member of the BCDW Empire in January, 2017. I can’t recall if it was a New Years Resolution, getting prepared to slay at Essence Festival 2017, or both, that motivated Dori to attend class. I do know, however, that I’m happy she walked through those doors! Since, she has been a joy to have in class and a supportive presence. I can often draw off her energy to be a better instructor. Everyone needs students like that in their class and I’m happy to say I do in Dori.
When I think of Dori, a particular “class” with her always stands out to me. Earlier this
year, I was a bit bummed due to low RSVPs so I canceled class, announced it on social media, but headed to the studio anyway to practice some choreography. Unfortunately (or fortunately as it turns out), Dori and a friend was already in route to class and had not seen the email. When they arrived and I informed them of class being canceled, Dori understood but was a little disappointed. She had received word of getting accepted into Nursing school that day and was looking forward to class. Of course I had to let my girl twerk off her excitement and we had “class” anyway, just the 3 of us.
I have watched Dori push through when she was having a more difficult than usual time after a few sessions missed and also kill the choreography. She never gives up and finds the time to prioritize her health even while working 2 jobs at one point. Rain, snow and cold didn't keep her from class. In March 2017, The Boss Chick Dance Workout Headquarters launched an #imabosschick Challenge to celebrate Women’s History Month. Dori was the 2nd place winner, representing Boston in the Nation-wide competition. This past month, I have seen the dedication in her and the changes she’s made over the last 8 months (I can’t believe it’s been that long already!). Because of this, I am very proud of Dori and am delighted to have her as my Miss September!
